How to Use Wi-Fi on a BlackBerry Curve

Wi-Fi is a term that covers all wireless networks using the standards from the IEEE 802.11 specification. Wi-Fi allows devices to connect without wires and exchange information much faster than they can with other wireless networking standards, like Bluetooth. At the core of each Wi-Fi network is a wireless router or antenna, and your BlackBerry will have to be within range of the Wi-Fi signal in order to use the network. Using a Wi-Fi connection will allow you to use the Internet on your BlackBerry without using up your data plan's capacity.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the connections area at the top of the BlackBerry home screen. Select "Set Up Wi-Fi Network" from the list of options that appear on the screen.

    • 2

Choose "Turn on Wi-Fi" from the pop-up box in the middle of the screen. After a few seconds, all the available Wi-Fi networks in the area will appear on the screen. If you only want to show unsecured networks, place a check mark next to "Show Open Networks Only." Open networks will not require a password.

    • 3

Select the Wi-Fi network that you want to connect to from the list of networks.

    • 4

Type in the password for the network, if applicable, and select "Connect." After a few moments, the BlackBerry will go back to the "Manage Connections" screen. Press the "Back" button to go back to the home screen. You will see the name of your Wi-Fi network at the top of the screen.
