How to Do Proper Nose Blowing
There is controversy whether or not to blow your nose when you have a cold. Some believe that blowing your nose slows drainage, because the flow of mucus is reversed into your sinuses. Blowing your nose also puts pressure on your nasal cavities; more-so than sneezing and coughing do. If you feel that blowing your nose may offer some relief, make sure to apply the correct nose blowing technique.

1
Find a private area. Avoid blowing your nose in front of other people, or at the dinner table. Blowing your nose is associated with germs and people may find it distasteful to witness the act. They may move away from you and avoid coming near you afterward.
-
2
Open up a paper tissue. Avoid using cloth handkerchiefs or napkins to blow your nose, because these are not as easily discarded.

3
Drape the paper tissue over your nose while holding it in place with both hands. Close the right nostril using the fingers of your right hand. Inhale through your mouth and gently blow out the air and mucus through your left nostril. Avoid blowing too hard, because this may result in an earache. Wipe away the mucus. Fold the tissue to find a clean, dry spot and repeat the process on the other side.

4
Discard your paper tissue immediately after blowing your nose. Wash your hands well with soap and water, to eliminate any germs.
