How to Get Rid of Auto Complete on Your Computer

Autocomplete can also fill in passwords and usernames.

Most Web browsers contain a feature called Autocomplete. When you start typing into the Web browser's search bar, Autocomplete offers suggestions based on the few letters that you have already typed. These suggestions are generally based on past Internet searches and websites that you have saved as favorites. This means that anyone using your Web browser may be able to determine what your most recent searches were. If this bothers you, you can turn off Autocomplete.

Instructions

Mozilla Firefox 4

1. Open Mozilla Firefox 4.

2. Click "Firefox" and "Options."

3. Click the "Privacy" tab.

4. Select "Nothing" from the Location Bar drop-down menu.

5. Click "OK." Autocomplete is now turned off.

Internet Explorer 9

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click "Tools" and "Internet Options."

3. Click the "Content" tab.

4. Click "Settings" under AutoComplete.

5. Uncheck the box next to each item listed and click "OK." Autocomplete is now turned off.
