How to Reset the BIOS on a Dell Precision 370

The Dell Precision 370 is a unique desktop computer that allows you to manually reset the BIOS (basic input / output system) settings from its motherboard. If you mistakenly changed settings on the BIOS system and the computer does not function properly or turn on, resetting the BIOS is necessary. Doing it manually might be the only option you have, and Dell makes it very easy for people who do not know much about circuitry and motherboards to accomplish this task.

  • Turn off the Dell Precision 370 and remove the AC adapter cable from the rear of the computer tower. This is a large plug that connects at the top-left of the computer tower on the back.

  • Place the computer tower on its side so you have access to both cover release buttons on both the top and bottom of the tower. Push both release buttons in and fold the tower cover open like you were opening a book. The motherboard will now be accessible.

  • Pull the CMOS password jumper plug out of its socket. The CMOS jumper plug is located on the top row of modules on the motherboard. It can simply be pulled out like a lamp plug.

  • Locate the CLRCM jumper plug which is above and to the right of the small lithium-ion battery on the motherboard and remove the CLRCM plug. Insert the CMOS password jumper plug into the CLRCM module for five seconds. This will completely reset the Precision 370 BIOS system, remove the BIOS password and reset all of the BIOS settings back to the defaults.

  • Remove the password jumper plug from the CLRCM module and place both plugs back into their modules. Close the Dell Precision 370 tower and reattach the AC adapter to the tower's power plug.

Tips & Warnings

  • The terms CMOS and BIOS are often used interchangeably as they refer to the same circuitry in a PC.
