How to Make Custom Flyers
Flyers are a great way of presenting your business, your service or of letting people know of a neighborhood event. But printing flyers can get expensive, especially if you hand out a large quantity. They are an excellent and inexpensive way to get the message out to many people but also allow you to be creative. Most people believe that you need some type of publishing software to make customized flyers, but Open Office, a free open source program, also allows you to make interesting looking flyers.

Download and install Open Office if you don't already have it installed on your computer.

Open OpenOffice.org Writer and go to the "File" menu on the top toolbar. Scroll down to New. Choose "Templates and Documents" from the drop-down list. This opens up a box that lists all the templates you currently have stored on your computer. Choose a flyer template you like.

Click on "Get More Templates Online" if there is not one you want stored on your computer. Wait for the website to appear. Click on the "Private" tab and select "Private Documents" from the list that appears. Wait for the different flyer templates to appear. There are many different sizes and layouts to choose from.

Select the flyer layout that you want to use by clicking the "Use It" button. Wait for the template to appear in the Open Office window. If a pop-up window appears asking for the program you want to open the file with, select Open Office from the drop-down menu.

Write in the appropriate information for your flyer in the spaces available on the template. Customize the colors and graphics to the text style and background of the flyer using the available options. Save the flyer when you finish customizing it.

View your finished flyer by clicking on "File" and "Print Preview." When you are happy with the final version, print the number of flyers you want. You can also print one version and take it to the copy shop to make as many copies as you need.
