Traffic citations are a pain to deal with. If you fail to take care of traffic citations you may become liable to have your car booted or even impounded. Staying on top of traffic citations and making sure that your car is free of any fines is the best way to prevent any of these consequences. Many states make it easy for you to check if your car has any outstanding citations and some even allow you to make payments online.
Things You'll Need
- Internet access
Visit your state's Department of Motor Vehicles website. Click on the option to pay for outstanding traffic tickets.
Enter your vehicle's plate information in the required fields and click the search icon. A list of results for traffic citations on your vehicle will pop up. The results include outstanding and paid traffic citations. Click on traffic citations for detailed information like date, reason and location of traffic citation.
Call your state's Department of Motor Vehicles toll free number to inquire about traffic citations linked to your vehicle. Some states do not have the option of searching online for traffic citations so calling them is your next best option. Give the customer service representative all the information related to your vehicle, though they will namely ask for license plate information. The representative will let you know if your vehicle has any citations.
