If you would like to see other features or programs on your desktop when you are using Microsoft Excel, then you will want to reduce the size of your program screen. Reducing the size of your program screen takes only a few seconds, if you know the proper place to look and to click. Familiarize yourself with the Microsoft Excel toolbar.
Open Microsoft Excel. You may find the icon on your desktop or in your Start menu. If you cannot locate the program in either of these places, then click on the "Start" menu. Then click on "All Programs", "Microsoft Office" and "Microsoft Office Excel 2007." A new spreadsheet will open on your screen.
Click the yellow Office Button, followed by "Open." Click the file you would like to open, followed by "Open." Your file will open on your screen.
Locate your top toolbar spanning the length of your screen. Look to the end of the toolbar and up to the top right-hand corner of the screen. You will see three tiny buttons. The first is called Minimize. The second is called Restore Down. The third is called Close. Click "Restore Down." You screen will grow reduce to a smaller size.
