Symptoms of restlessness can be a major issue for some people. The biggest issue with restlessness is an inability to relax and get a good night’s rest. Without a restful night’s sleep, you can expect to have an unproductive day, stressful day, which can make your symptoms even worse. If restlessness is keeping you up at night and negatively impacting your waking hours, there are some things that you can do to get rid of this symptom.
Practice relaxation exercises as part of your nightly ritual. Deep breathing, meditation and yoga can help ease your restlessness before you go to sleep.
Avoid caffeine during the day. Even though you may be exhausted from a poor night’s sleep, lots of caffeine will only increase your symptoms of restlessness.
Exercise -- a regular exercise program with at least 30 minutes of cardio can relieve restlessness and give you a better night’s rest.
Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day of the week, not just on weekdays.
Skip the late-afternoon nap. A nap during the day can cause symptoms of restlessness at night.
Talk to your doctor about taking a medication to help you sleep; but only as a temporary measure, while you get your symptoms of restlessness under control.
