How to Clear the Memory on a Graphing Calculator

For basic calculators, hitting the "MC" (Memory Clear) button will generally send the order to drive that number or two out of memory. But graphing calculators operate more like computers, and they can even accommodate games and other downloads (as of 2011). If you find that your graphing calculator is working abnormally, a memory clear will reset your functions back to what you are accustomed to.

Things You'll Need

  • Calculator owner's manual
  • Push the "MEM" key. This will generally be an alternate function, which means you'll need to press the "2nd" or "ALT" key and then push the button that has "MEM" above it in the same color as the "2nd" or "ALT" key.

  • Choose "Reset" from the memory menu. If your brand requires it, press "Enter" at this point.

  • Choose between resetting the entire memory or just defaults. If you have downloaded any other applications to your calculator and you choose an entire memory reset, you could lose your games too.

  • Confirm the request to reset, if your calculator gives you that prompt. Your calculator may pause at this point, but momentarily you will have a cleared memory.
