Use Cricut machines to make homemade scrapbooking items, stickers and other vinyl and paper products. Of course, when you first pull out a fresh, new cutting mat, it can be so sticky that the paper or cardstock won't even come off. Condition the cutting mat so your cut-outs peel off simply and without tearing or leaving anything behind.

Step 1

Remove the plastic protective top from the cutting mat.

Step 2

Stick an old T-shirt or rag to the sticky side of the cutting mat and remove. Repeat this step as many times as you need. The adhesive is washable and will not damage the shirt, but it is a good idea to use an old shirt as the continuous use will begin to wear on it eventually.

Step 3

Rub your bare hands over the sticky surface. If the T-shirt doesn't remove enough of the stickiness, the natural oils on your hands might help.

Tip

If you find that you have removed too much of the adhesive, use baby wipes to clean the surface and then apply a spray adhesive to the mat. Apply only enough adhesive to make it the strength you desire, otherwise you'll be going through the removal steps all over again.
