Instructions for Flinch

Flinch is a card game developed by Parker Brothers and uses a special deck of 150 numbered cards, from one to 15. Played by two to eight players, the object of the game is to discard all of the cards in your stockpiles. Setting up the game is often tricky for first-timers, as four distinct piles are needed. Although the rules are basic, a strong strategy is required to be successful.

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle the deck to ensure that the cards are adequately random.

    • 2

Determine the dealer by randomly choosing a card from the deck. The player with the highest card deals first.

    • 3

Deal 10 cards face down to each player. The players do not look at these cards.

    • 4

Stack the 10 cards face down in front of you. This pile represents your stockpile.

    • 5

Flip over the top card of your stockpile.

    • 6

Deal five cards face down to each player. These cards represent your hand.

    • 7

Create five piles at the center of the table with the remaining cards from the deck. Use the provided Flinch holder or simply stack them face down on the table.

    • 8

Begin the game with the player directly to the left of the dealer. If the player's top stockpile card is a one, the player places the card in the center of the table, creating the first play pile. If the player played a one card, he then flips over the next card in his stockpile. If that card is also a one, he creates a second play pile by placing the card next to the previous card.

    • 9

Play a one card from your hand if you do not have a one on your stockpile.

    • 10

Continue your turn by playing sequential cards onto the play piles. Your turn ends once you can't play on top of one of the play piles.

    • 11

End your turn by discarding one of the cards from your hand into your reserve pile. Collect five cards from the stack once your hand is exhausted.

    • 12

Play the top card of your reverse pile if you can't play from your stock or your hand.

    • 13

Remove the playing piles once they have reached 15. A new pile is then created with a one card.

    • 14

Challenge your opponents if they play a card from their hand or reverse pile if their stockpile cards are available to play. The player's punishment is that he can't discard to the reverse pile for that turn.

    • 15

Win the game by being the first player to discard all of your stockpile cards.
