How Do I Kill Hard-to-See Fruit Flies in My Home?
Fruit flies are hard-to-see insects attracted to ripe foods, especially produce. Although prevalent in kitchens, fruit flies accumulate wherever opened food and beverage containers are left out. Adult fruit flies rapidly breed in commonly dirty areas of homes, such as trash bins and garbage disposals, and females produce several hundred of eggs at once. Aside from being nuisances, fruit flies can contaminate exposed foods with bacterial organisms that cause diseases in humans. Things You'll Need
- Ordinary glass jar
- 2 oz. plain apple cider vinegar
- Liquid dishwashing soap
- Spoon
- Plastic wrap
- Rubber band
- Toothpick

Fill an ordinary glass jar with 2 oz. of plain apple cider vinegar.

Add one drop of regular liquid dishwashing soap to the apple cider vinegar. Stir the solution to mix the ingredients.

Lay a sheet of plastic wrap over the jar's mouth. Place a rubber band around the jar's mouth to tightly secure the plastic wrap.

Pierce several holes into the secured plastic with a toothpick so that the tiny fruit flies can access the sweet-smelling solution. Place the jar wherever the fruit flies are gathered.

Leave the bait out for 24 hours to catch as many fruit flies as possible. The fruit flies will become trapped and drown once they begin consuming on the solution.

Flush the bait and dead fruit flies down the toilet or sink.

Keep food in sealed containers to prevent fruit flies.
Immediately clean spilled food and beverages to prevent fruit flies.
Substitute regular copy or notebook paper for plastic wrap. Roll the paper into a funnel and insert the narrow end of the paper funnel in the jar.
