How to Add Your Skype for Pidgin
Pidgin is an open source, cross platform instant messenger. Although Pidgin does not come with Skype support, there is a Skype for Pidgin plugin. The one downside is Skype's API, the library other applications use to communicate with Skype. Due to Skype's restrictive policies, the plugin will only function when Skype is running and logged in to the user account that Pidgin is attempting to access. Although it might seem pointless to run two instant messaging applications, Skype for Pidgin allows you to use Pidgin's other useful plug-ins, such as OTR encryption.

Tips & Warnings
If you change Skype's settings to not launch new windows when in compact mode, you can leave Skype minimized in your toolbar and will only see windows from Pidgin.
