Instructions

    • 1

Sharpen your blade using the sharpening stone. Additional sharpening will be required as the blade becomes dull.

    • 2

Grab the middle handle of the scythe with your right hand and the top handle with your left hand. Place the blade low to the ground.

    • 3

Swing the blade briskly from right to left using a twisting motion with your arms and body. Make sure the blade does not touch any dirt or rocks; this will rapidly dull the blade. Only attempt to cut a narrow section at any given time. The cut wheat plant will fall to the ground.

    • 4

Periodically check the blade for sharpness. Use the sharpening stone as needed.

Tips & Warnings

  • First-time users generally attempt to cut too much at once. A sharp blade that cuts only narrow strips will require far less effort for the more experienced user.

  • Before using your scythe, be sure to check that all parts are securely fastened to avoid injury. Use gloves while sharpening the blade and cutting.
