How to Seal HVAC Ductwork
HVAC ductwork has many seams. Look it over carefully and you will see seams that run lengthwise along the ductwork and seams at each connection. Each of these seams has the potential to leak a considerable amount of air. This air, when allowed to leak into areas like your basement or attic, can dramatically raise your energy bill. The only way to prevent this is to seal each seam with duct sealant. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Cut the tip of the duct sealant tube off at a 45-degree angle approximately 1/4-inch from the end. Load the tube into the caulk gun and squeeze the trigger until you feel resistance.
-
2
Position the tip of the tube along the first seam and firmly squeeze the trigger while moving the tip along the seam. The duct sealant will cover the seam in an even bead.

3
Fill each additional seam in the same manner. Wet your finger and use it to smooth the duct sealant and pack it tight in each seam.
-
4
Allow the sealant to fully cure before running the HVAC system. Total cure time may vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
