1
Locate a spot on the wall for the plate rack to go. Measure the length of the plate rack. Run a tape measure from one end to the other and record the measurement.
-
2
Measure and mark the location along the wall with a pencil. Draw a small line at the beginning and end of the plate rack. Run a stud finder along the wall. Press it firmly between the pencil marks and mark each stud location with a pencil when the red light goes off.

3
Turn the plate rack upside down and locate the hooks on the back of the hanger. Push the plate rack up against the wall at the desired location and mark the wall with a pencil where each hanger is located. Position the hanger so the most possible amount of hooks are at the already marked stud locations. Remove the plate rack from the wall and set it aside.
-
4
Hammer in nails at each hook location. Line up the nails along the studs and hammer them in until the head of each nail is about 1/2-inch from the surface of the drywall. Set a level horizontally across the wall on the nails and verify they are being installed straight across the wall. Move down the wall and insert the nails at each stud location in the same manner for the entire length of the plate hanger and check periodically to ensure they are level.
-
5
Slide the hooks of the plate hanger on top of the nails so they rest on the portion of the nails sticking out from the walls. Center it on the wall and set a level horizontally on top of the hanger. Verify it is straight across the wall. Add plates to the hanger and check that it can withstand the weight.
