A french seam is the standard high-end seam finish for chiffon in the fashion industry.

A french seam is the standard seam for any sheer fabric in the industry. It is is an encased seam that hides the fabric edge inside the seam allowance. A french seam requires a little planning, as it requires double the seam allowance. A french seam is always done by hand; there is no sewing machine that can fold the seam allowance twice. Including this seam to your sewing instantly adds a couture feeling to your designs.
