DIY Tabletop Herb Garden
Many herbs are easy to grow inside, on a DIY table-top herb garden, as long as they have adequate exposure to sunlight. The best time to do this is during the summer months when days are longer and the sun's rays are more intense. The sunnier the window, the greater the variety of herbs you can grow. In south- or west-facing windows, grow thyme, oregano, sage, marjoram, chili peppers basil and parsley. In cooler, east-facing windows, plant mint, chives and parsley. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Place the table in a sunny window. Plan to plant individual herb species in their own pots, or plant herbs that like similar growing conditions in the same, larger pot. For example Mediterranean herbs like oregano, marjoram, sage and thyme, which like lots of sun and a well drained soil, are a good choice for growing in the same pot.

2
Fill pots with potting soil, 3 inches from the top. Water the soil until excess water drips out of the bottom of the pot. Plant herb seedlings, leaving 2 inches between them for the roots to spread, making sure their crowns are level with the soil or 1/4 inch above. Tamp soil down firmly around each herb seedling. Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep and 1 inch apart.

Water herbs until excess water drips out of the bottom of the pot. Continue to water herbs in the same way when the top 1/2 inch of soil is dry. Depending on how sunny your window is, this could be as much as every day.

Harvest leaves anytime, making sure not to cut off more than 1/3 of the herb plant to keep it vigorous.
