How to Convert a Posted Resume to a PDF File
Because of differences between computer programs, it is often best to send your resume as a PDF. A PDF looks the same on a Mac and a PC and does not require a computer to have any specific fonts or software. You can convert a resume in any document or picture format to a PDF using the programs on your computer. If you no longer have the original resume, you can take a screen shot of it and convert that to a PDF.

Convert a resume in any document format to a PDF on a Mac computer by selecting "File" and scroll to "Print." Click on the "PDF" drop-down menu of the pop-up window and select "Save as PDF" then click on the "Save" button.

Take a screen shot of a resume posted on a website. Click on the Windows menu, select "All Programs" then "Accessories." Select "Snipping Tool" and click on "New." Drag the box over the resume then release the mouse. Open the picture in Adobe Reader, a free program provided with most Windows computers, and click on the "File" menu. Select "Save As" then click on the drop-down menu for file extension. Select "PDF" and click "Save."

Convert a posted resume to a PDF on a Mac by taking a screen shot. Click on the keys "Command," "Shift" and "4" then drag the box over the resume. The picture saves on your desktop as a JPEG. Right-click on the icon of the picture, named something like "Picture 5," and scroll to "Open in" and select "Preview." Save the picture as a PDF.

Visit a free online file conversion program (see Resources). Click on the "Convert" option. Press the button that reads "Choose File" and highlight the file you wish to convert. Press the "Ok" button then "Convert" or "Upload and Convert." The program will automatically convert the file to a PDF.
