How to Get an MP3 CD Onto Your Computer

An MP3 CD is a convenient way to transport a large number of MP3 files at once. Many CD players are even capable of playing MP3 CDs. An MP3 CD is nothing more than a data disc; this allows you to easily get the files from an MP3 CD onto your computer using only the tools available to you in Windows Explorer.

      Insert the MP3 CD into the CD drive on your computer.

      Click "Start," then click "Computer."

      Right-click the CD's icon in the "Devices with Removable Storage" section, then click "Open."

      Press "Ctrl" and "A" together to select all of the MP3 files on the CD, or hold down "Ctrl" as you click each MP3 file that you want to copy to your computer.

      Press "Ctrl" and "C" simultaneously to copy the selected files.

      Browse to the location on your computer in which you wish to store the MP3 files. If you want to transfer them to the default Windows music folder, click "Music" in the "Start" menu.

      Right-click anywhere inside the selected folder and click "Paste" to move the MP3 CD's contents to your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to get MP3 files from an audio CD, use the Windows Media Player "Rip" utility in the AutoPlay window that opens when you insert an audio CD.
