Keep in touch with Facebook by registering for SMS text message updates on your cell phone.

Communicating with friends on Facebook can be mildly addictive. If you find it difficult to tear yourself away from the computer in case you might miss important updates from your friends, then you might want to receive Facebook messages on your cell phone. Smartphone users can download the Facebook Mobile application, but there's also a method of receiving Facebook messages on any cell phone. This feature notifies you of messages, friend requests, status updates and wall posts. To get Facebook messages on your cell phone, register for SMS text updates from your Facebook account settings page.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your computer's Web browser and log in to Facebook.

    • 2

Click the "Account" link at the top of your Facebook home page. Select "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Click the "Mobile" tab on the "My Account" page.

    • 4

Click the "Register for Facebook Text Messages" link.

    • 5

Select your country location and carrier network from the drop-down menu. Click the "Next" button.

    • 6

Note the text number and code -- this is usually a single letter -- in the "Activate Facebook Texts" pop-up window. You'll need to text the code to the supplied number to activate the service.

    • 7

Switch on your cell phone and open the text message application.

    • 8

Create a new text message containing the code in the message body and send it to the text number supplied in Step 6.

    • 9

Wait for Facebook to text you back with a full confirmation code. Note the confirmation code.

    • 10

Type the code into the dialog box in the pop-up window. Click "Next" and then click "OK." You will now receive text messages from Facebook on your cell phone.
