How to Import Photos Into SketchUp


Google's free SketchUp application is a tool that you can use to design and model nearly anything, from two-dimensional floor plans to three-dimensional models. You can import most common types of picture files into the SketchUp application and use those pictures in your designs. You can use the application's File menu to import and arrange photos in a SketchUp model.

  • Run the Google SketchUp application.

  • Click "File" in the menu bar, then click "Import" to open a file browser window.

  • Click the drop-down menu next to "Files of type" to select the type of photo file that you want to import into SketchUp. You can select most common picture file types such as JPG, BMP, TIF, PNG, and PSD. You may also select "All Supported Image Types" to view all files that you can import into SketchUp.

  • Go to the directory that contains the photo that you want to import into SketchUp.

  • Click the file that you want to import, then click the "Open" button. The photo will appear in the SketchUp window.

  • Click the location in your SketchUp design where you want the photo to appear.

  • Move the cursor to change the size of the photo in SketchUp. Click when the photo is the desired size to attach the photo to your model.
