How to Make a Cottonmouth Snake Out of Wood

Eastern cottonmouth snakes, also known as water moccasins, were named for the white-colored tissue inside their mouths. These snakes are prominent throughout the warm and humid climates of the southeastern United States. Instructions

    • 1

Draw an outline of a cottonmouth snake on a 36-inch long 2x4 wooden board using a pencil. Adult cottonmouths are typically 30 to 48-inches long with a wide body, narrow neck and wide head.

    • 2

Cut the wooden cottonmouth out using a jig saw or band saw. Round off the top edges of the snake using a rotary tool, such as a Dremel. Sand the entire snake smooth with sandpaper.

    • 3

Paint the cottonmouth using olive, brown and black wood paints and a paint brush. Cottonmouths typically have olive or dark brown bodies with black cross bands. Allow the paint to dry for about one hour.
