After you've stored your "Team Fortress 2" items into your backpack, it becomes visible for anyone to see -- which means you're subject to solicitors incessantly rummaging through your bags in hopes you're willing to make a trade for them. Although there isn't a way to hide the backpack specifically, you can make your Steam profile private to conceal your items.
Navigate to the Steam Community website and log in to your account (see Resources). If prompted, you'll need to get a code sent to your email address to verify the Web browser.
Hover over your username in the top menu bar, next to "Community" and "About." In the drop-down menu that appears, select "Profile." You'll be taken to your own profile page.
Click "Edit Profile" to access its configuration settings, changing to the "My Privacy Settings" tab on the next screen.
Change "Profile Status" to either "Private" or "Friends Only," depending on how private you want your backpack to be.
Click "Save Changes" when you're done modifying the settings.
Tips & Warnings
- To further cement your privacy, you can change "Inventory" to "Private" or "Friends Only." This affects your entire Steam inventory and may affect whether someone can send you a trade offer for items outside of "Team Fortress 2."
- Though they won't be able to see your entire inventory, users may be able to see the most recent item you received on third-party websites.
- If you change your settings to "Friends Only," be sure not to accept random friend requests.
