An Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) file is a particular file type that works well with Windows Media Player. If you have a Mac OSX operating system, you can download Windows Media Player for Mac for free. ASX is a metafile that contains data about an Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) file. When you open an ASX file in Windows Media Player, it simply gives a text command to start streaming the ASF file it represents.

  • Open Windows Media Player.

  • Click "File," and in the drop down menu, click "Open File." Highlight the ASX file you wish to play, and double-click on the file.

  • Press "Play" after the file is fully loaded into the media player.
