How to Make Logos With GIMP 2.6
GIMP 2.6 is a stable version of the free graphic design program. One of its "Create" features listed under "File" is a category called "Logos." The logos function lists more than 20 styles to choose from when creating a text-based logo. After choosing a style, you can enter in the text of your choice while also customizing the size and font. Depending on the chosen style, you may also be able to customize what colors and preset designs are implemented, leaving you with a personalized logo.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to save your logo as a GIMP workbook in addition to simply saving it as a picture, you can use the ".XCF" file extension when saving the document.
Some fonts don't work well with specific styles of logos. For example, if you choose a thin and curly font with a thick, block-like design style, the end result may not be legible. If your selection produces undesirable results, simply start over and select a different font or a different style to begin with.
