How to Synchronize Computer Time With an Online Server
A computer's clock is often more important than many people may realize. Used by Windows-based maintenance components, group policy and security applications, to name a few, the clock is crucial for providing automated applications with a schedule to follow. Additionally, system logs and file stamps depend upon the clock to provide accurate time stamping. You can synchronize your clock with an online server. This allows the clock on one or more computers to always have identical time. You can configure this option within your clock's settings menu.

1
Click "Start." Type "Date and Time" in the Search field, and press "Enter." This opens a new window on the screen.

2
Click the "Internet Time" tab, and then click the "Change Settings ..." button at the bottom. This opens a second window containing the options for configuring an Internet time server.

The default value is "time.windows.com." The other servers connect to a specific time.gov server. While each option provides the same official time, each independent server listed relates to its geographic location. Due to Internet latency, servers closer to you might provide you with a slightly more accurate time.
If you are trying to synchronize with another computer or network, ensure you choose the same value it is using. Unless otherwise specified, this will usually be the "time.windows.com" server.

5
Click the "Update Now" button. Allow several seconds for the clock to synchronize. Click the "OK" button once you see the "Clock was successfully Synchronized ..." message to close the window.
