How to Apply for Florida Tier 2 Unemployment
In Florida, you can qualify for Tier 2 of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits if you exhaust Tier 1 benefits before December 31, 2011. You must also still be within your benefit year, which is the 12-month period from when you first applied for unemployment benefits. As of May 2011, the federal deadline of the EUC program is June 9, 2012. This means you cannot collect any EUC benefits after this period in Florida or any other state. Tier 2 offers 14 weeks of additional benefits.

Complete your claim form for the last week of your Tier 1 benefits. Do this the same way you normally do by filing the claim online on the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation website or by phone at (800) 204-2418. You must exhaust Tier 1 benefits to be eligible for Tier 2 benefits.

Wait for a determination letter to be mailed to your home address once you have completed Tier 1 benefits. The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation automatically files an application for Tier 2 benefits once you end Tier 1 benefits. The determination letter lets you know if you are eligible and how long you will get the benefits on Tier 2. The letter should arrive within seven days of your last filed claim on Tier 1 benefits.
