How to Remove Green Sprouts From Garlic
Fresh garlic has a strong pungent taste and smell that is instantly recognizable. The flavor and aroma can be enhanced by roasting, baking or pressing the garlic. When buying fresh garlic, you may notice green sprouts growing out from the bulb. Do not be alarmed, the green shoots are an indicator that you have a more mature garlic bulb. However, they should not be eaten because the sprouts have a bitter taste. Avoid ruining your dish by removing the sprouts before adding the garlic to the recipe or storing it for later use. Things You'll Need
- Cutting board
- Stainless steel utensil
- Knife
- Plastic container
- Hand soap
- Towel

Place the garlic bulb on its side on the cutting board.

Cut the bulb in half to be certain that you remove all of the sprouts. Throw away the half with the sprouts.

Store the remaining bulb in a plastic container. Place the container in a cool, dry, and dark place.

Check the garlic before using. The garlic should be usable for up to four weeks after cutting it. However, discard if you notice mold on the bulb. Cut away any dried sections of garlic before using.
