DIY Mosaic Bathroom Sink

Liven up your bethroom with a handmade mosaic sink.

Mosaic bathroom sinks are common in Moroccan bathrooms, but are seldom seen elsewhere. A mosaic tile sink doesn't have to be traditional or remotely Moroccan -- you can mosaic almost any design or picture onto a sink, or make an abstract mosaic. Mosaic art has been enjoyed for thousands of years and will set your bathroom sink apart from the ordinary.

Things You'll Need

• Marker
• Mosaic adhesive
• Paintbrush
• Wire brush
• Mosaic tiles
• Mosaic grout
• Grout scraper
• Lint-free cloth
• Tile and grout sealer

Instructions

1. Mark a line around the outside of the sink to show the height that the sink will sit at in the vanity. If it is a full-sunken sink, there is no need for this, nor if you only want to mosaic the inside of the bowl.

2. Apply a 1/16-inch layer of mosaic adhesive with a paintbrush to the sink surface. Let the adhesive dry per the drying times on the adhesive label, then use a wire brush to gently roughen the surface of the adhesive, providing a textured surface for applying the tile.

3. Dip the reverse side of a mosaic tile into mosaic adhesive and press it onto the scored surface of the sink. Continue dipping and pressing on the mosaic tiles in the desired pattern or design, ensuring 1/8 inch is between each tile. Let dry.

4. Spread mosaic grout into the joints between the mosaic tiles with a grout scraper. If the grout scraper is a little tough to use on the sink, use your fingers instead. As you work, use a lint-free cloth to wipe off excess grout. Let the grout harden for 30 minutes.

5. Wipe the tiles with a clean and slightly damp cloth. Leave it for another half hour, then polish the mosaic tiles with a clean, dry cloth. Leave to cure for the amount of time specified on the mosaic grout label.

6. Apply two to three coats of grout and tile sealer onto the mosaic, following the directions on the sealer label. Leave to dry for the recommended time before installing the sink.

Tips & Warnings

• Draw the mosaic design in marker on the sink if you are not confident applying the mosaic straight to the sink without a guide.
