How to Keep Your Icy Soles White

If you are a collector of expensive athletic shoes, you probably want them to stay fresh looking as long as possible. The term icy soles refers to the white soles on certain sneakers. Naturally, these soles turn yellow after being exposed to oxygen or other elements that cause them to become dirty. If you choose to wear the shoes, it is virtually impossible to keep the soles icy forever, but there are steps that you can take to prevent them from yellowing quickly.

Things You'll Need

  • Shoe box
  • Silica gel packets
  • SeaGlow
  • toothbrush
  • Take the paper out of the shoe box and set packets of silica gel in the bottom of the box. Do not use more than four small packets or one large packet of silica gels.

  • Walk on areas of the ground that are not covered with water, grass or dirt. Do not wear the shoes when it is raining or snowing, as this is a way to make the soles turn yellow quickly.

  • Apply SeaGlow or a similar product to the soles of the shoes after use with a toothbrush to help prevent yellowing.

  • Apply clear tape to the soles of the shoes while wearing them to prevent yellowing; this might make funny sounds or look odd.

  • Store shoes in their shoe box in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when you are not wearing them.
