How to Remove & Reinstall iTunes

If you have a problem with iTunes and cannot fix the issue, you should first try to update iTunes by using the Apple Update application on your computer. However, if you cannot do that or the problem persists after updating iTunes, as a last resort you can remove iTunes and related components from your computer and then reinstall iTunes. To avoid problems, Apple suggests that you remove iTunes and its components in a specific order.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button, then click "Control Panel."

    • 2

Click "Uninstall a Program." Wait a few moments for a list of all programs and applications on your computer to load.

    • 3

Click "iTunes," then click "Uninstall." Do the same for any other "iTunes" listings. Repeat for any "iPod Updater," "Quicktime," "Apple Software Update," "Apple Mobile Device Support," "Bonjour" and "Apple Application Support" listings, in that order.

    • 4

      Restart your computer.

    • 5

Open a Web browser and go to Apple's iTunes download page. Download the most recent version of iTunes for your computer.

    • 6

Double-click on the downloaded setup file to reinstall iTunes.
