Instructions

    • 1

Sand the wood to remove any contamination. Make it as smooth as possible to absorb the oil. Depending on the type of wood, use 150- to- 220-grit sandpaper for the job. If you are reapplying Watco Danish Oil for refurbishing, you don't need to sand the wood.

    • 2

Clean all the debris off the wood using a cloth and mineral spirits. Let the area dry.

    • 3

Apply the oil finish liberally with a paint brush, paint pad or cloth. Allow the oil to absorb for about 30 minutes.

    • 4

Wipe the excess oil from the wood after 30 minutes and repeat the application two or three more times, until the oil has absorbed into the wood and leaves a deep satin finish.

    • 5

Allow the finish to dry for 12 to 18 hours, until it has cured completely. Buff the finish with a red nylon pad. If areas of the wood don't show a satin finish, reapply a small amount to those parts. Let them dry and similarly buff them.

    • 6

Clean all oil applicators in mineral spirits before the oil dries.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be especially careful of water spills for the first 14 days after you apply the finish -- the oil finish continues to harden and it becomes more durable with time.
