How to Use Silversmith Silver Plating Polish

Hagerty Silver Plating Polish Spray is an easy-to-use, efficient silver polish that uses the same compounds silversmiths use to maintain the patina of your plated silver. Where other polishes and creams use chalk to polish silver -- which erodes the vibrancy of your silver's luster over time -- Hagerty silversmith's spray polish uses a combination of pumice, diatomaceous earth, iron oxide and clay.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Silver polishing cloth

Instructions

1. Place the silver to be polished on a flat surface, on top of a large towel.

2. Shake the can of polish vigorously for a minute, and then spray the surface of the silver, so that all areas are covered in a fine mist.

3. Rub the silver gently with the silver polishing cloth, to buff away the built-up tarnish. Continue buffing the silver until the last of the silver polishing spray has been absorbed by the cloth and no more tarnish is visible on the silver.

Tips & Warnings

• Clean away any bits of encrusted food you might find hidden under handles or in other places prior to cleaning with silver plate polish.
