Format your notecards in MLA style.

The Modern Language Association (MLA) format is a research, writing and source-citation style. When researching a paper or project in MLA, students commonly use notecards to keep track of information and the sources they plan to cite. MLA format does not have a specific method of making note cards for each type of source, but there is a general style for taking information down on notecards for use in research.

Instructions

    • 1

Label the notecard by writing the topic of the website across the top, in the left corner. You can also label the notecard by writing the specific topic of the information which you are citing in the upper left corner of the note card.

    • 2

Write your source code in the upper right corner of the index card. The source code is a letter or number that corresponds to the website's source index card. The source code allows you to recognize the exact website from which you got the information because it directs you to its source card.

    • 3

Take down the notes from the website in the middle of the index card. They can be bullet points, a summary, or a paraphrase of the website's information. If you take a direct quote, surround the quote with appropriate punctuation.
