How to Import a PGP Key for a Mac OS X

One of the features of PGP Desktop is full desktop integration, allowing for a seamless and relatively transparent encryption interface behind much of your computer's communication and storage channels. This integration makes the importing of PGP key files, or .ASC files as they are usually marked, a simple task. Once imported, PGP keys can be used to encrypt, and sign files and messages on your system.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch a Finder window and navigate to the folder containing the ASC key file.

    • 2

Double-click the ASC file to automatically launch the PGP Desktop application and the Import dialog.

    • 3

Click the check box next to each PGP key you wish to important, then click "OK" to add the keys to your keyring.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also open ASC files by clicking "File" and then "Open" from the PGP Desktop main window.
