How to Rip DVDs to Computer Hard Drives Using ImgBurn

The free ImgBurn program makes it easy to back up your DVDs by ripping them to your hard drive as an ISO disk image. This allows you to archive your DVDs, mount them for playing on your computer or make exact copies by burning them to blank DVDs. This program should only be used for non-copyrighted DVDs, or those for which you own the copyrights.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the DVD you would like to copy and close the AutoPlay window, if it appears.

    • 2

      Open ImgBurn.

    • 3

Click "Create image file from disk" in the ImgBurn selection screen. Alternatively, click "Tools" in the top menu and select "Read," if you do not see the selection screen.

    • 4

Click the drop-down menu under "Source" and select your DVD drive. If you only have one optical drive, then it should already be selected.

    • 5

Click the folder icon in the "Destination" section. Navigate to your preferred save location, enter a "File name" and click "Save."

    • 6

Click the bottom, left button, which displays a DVD image with an arrow pointing away from it. An image of your DVD will then be ripped to your chosen save location.
