How to Make a Tied Blanket Without Sewing Anything
If you're looking to make a cozy blanket for yourself or as a gift, but you aren't a sewer, there is a method of blanket-making that requires no sewing at all. Tie blankets allow crafters to make large two-sided blankets quickly and easily without a sewing machine. This is also a great craft for kids, friends and family members to do together. These blankets are most easily made out of fleece material and make wonderful gifts for nearly anyone.
Instructions

1
Purchase two pieces of fleece from your local craft store. Pick two colors or patterns that coordinate well with one another, because each fabric will appear on each side of the blanket. Make sure the pieces of fleece are the exact same size.
-
2
Clear out an area on a craft table or on the floor that is big enough to use as a workspace. Clear enough space for the fabric to lay out flat and leave enough room for you to easily move around the fabric while working.

3
Lay one piece of fleece on the floor, with the softest side down, smoothing out the fabric so that it lays out completely flat. Place the second piece of fleece down directly on top of the other piece, with the soft side up. Line up the edges of each piece of fabric so they match up exactly.
-
4
Cut any uneven edges of the material, so the two pieces are even on all four sides.
-
5
Cut fringe in the fabric with the scissors. Begin at one side of the fabric, closest to the corner. Move over 5 inches and make a small cut. Measure 5 inches deep into the fabric and cut perpendicular to the edge of the fabric. Move over 1 inch and make another 5-inch-deep cut, creating a 1-inch by 5-inch rectangular piece of fringe.
-
6
Move over 1 inch from your cut, and make another 5-inch-deep cut. Continue this process until one side of the blanket is done, stopping within 5 inches of the other end of the fabric.
-
7
Start cutting across the adjacent side of the blanket; measure in 5 inches, and make another 5-inch-deep cut, making sure that it intersects the last cut on the previous side of the blanket. Remove the 5-inch square corner piece with your scissors. Make sure you keep the two pieces of fabric evenly on top of one another.
-
8
Continue the cutting and fringing process, making your 5-inch-deep cuts every 1 inch. When you reach each corner, remove the square from the corner as you go.
-
9
Tie the two strips of each piece of fringe together in a double knot. Continue this process around the fabric until all of the strips are knotted. Once the knots are all tied, the blanket is complete.

Tips & Warnings
Do not start tying the strips together until all of the strips have been cut. If you do, the fabric will be off center, and the blanket won't be even.
