How to Copy All BlackBerry Contacts to a PC

Research in Motion's BlackBerry smartphones often double as personal information managers, storing personal and business contacts as well as calendar entries and emails. You can use the BlackBerry Desktop Software program to copy data, including contacts, from your BlackBerry to your computer. Copying your contacts to your computer ensures that you will be able to access them even if your BlackBerry is lost, damaged, or wiped.

Things You'll Need

  • USB data cable
  • BlackBerry Desktop Software
  • Connect your BlackBerry and your computer with your USB data cable, and then launch the BlackBerry Desktop Software application on your computer.

  • Click "Organizer" and then click the "Configure settings..." button. Check the "Address Book" box. A new window will appear with a list of desktop applications.

  • Check the box of the desktop application you want to sync your contacts with and click "Next." You can choose to sync the data in your BlackBerry with Microsoft Outlook, the contact organizer built into Windows 7, or Yahoo!.

  • Click the "One way sync from device" radio button and click "Next." Click "Finish" to save your synchronization settings.

  • Click the "Sync" button in the lower-right corner of the BlackBerry Desktop Software window to copy all of the contacts on your BlackBerry to your PC.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to copy contacts from your PC to your BlackBerry at the same time, select "Two way sync" instead of "One way sync from device."
  • Do not disconnect your BlackBerry from the computer while you are copying your contacts.
