How to Make Crafts for Barbie Dolls From Old CDs

Save

Barbie dolls are popular with children for play and with adult collectors. The world of Barbie comprises many different types of accessories including doll houses, books, home decorating items and many types of crafts. Children of all ages can make inexpensive Barbie crafts with recycled CDs. The shiny side of the CDs works well for many craft ideas.

Things You'll Need

  • CDs
  • Craft glue
  • Yogurt cup, 6 ounce, tapered
  • Paint brush, optional
  • Craft feathers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Handkerchief
  • CD case
  • Ribbons
  • Barbie stickers
  • Glitter
  • Barbie coloring pictures
  • Crayons or markers
  • Flat rocks
  • Craft jewels
  • Letter beads
  • Glitter glue pen

Barbie Doll Stand

  • Paint the outside of a tapered yogurt cup with craft glue. Put a thick layer on the cup so the feathers will stick well.

  • Press craft feathers into the glue. Cover the entire outside of the yogurt cup with feathers. Overlap the feathers so the fluffiest part of the feathers are showing and the yogurt cup is completely covered.

  • Cover the bottom of the yogurt cup with a thick layer of hot glue. Press the cup bottom onto the center of the shiny side of the CD. Hold the cup in place for a few seconds so the glue will cool and set up.

  • Stand a Barbie doll inside the decorated cup. Fold a colorful handkerchief in half, then in half one or two more times to create a padded roll. Push the handkerchief roll into the cup and around the doll's legs to hold her upright.

Stand-Up Barbie Mirror

  • Remove labels and inserts from a clear CD case. Open the case so it is lying flat, with the outside facing up.

  • Cut out and color two Barbie coloring book pictures. Use craft glue to attach one picture onto the outside of each outer side of the opened CD case. Spread craft glue in places on the case that the picture doesn't cover up. Sprinkle glitter into the glue.

  • Let glue on the outside of the case dry. Turn the CD case over so the inside sections are facing up.

  • Put hot glue on the printed side of each CD. Quickly press one CD into the center of each side of the opened case.

  • Use craft glue to fasten Barbie stickers and tied ribbons around the edges of both CD mirrors.

  • Stand the CD mirror up with the case bent together slightly to help the it stand upright. Use the mirror for a Barbie doll dressing room.

Barbie's Garden Stepping Stones

  • Use a hot glue gun to fasten colorful flat pebbles and some craft jewels onto the shiny side of a CD. Add some letter beads to spell words like, "Welcome" or "Barbie."

  • Add some sparkle to the stones with glitter glue pens. Draw a design or random spots with the glitter pens.

  • Make several garden stones to place around a Barbie dollhouse or around a Barbie swimming pool area.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the hot glue gun carefully to prevent burns. Don't let young children use the hot glue gun.
