How to Get the Text Message Vibration to Work on My iPhone

Save

You can instruct your iPhone to vibrate every time it receives a text message by adjusting the sound settings. You can also dictate whether the vibration alerts you silently or not. The process to get text-message vibration on your iPhone is simple.

Silent

  • Flip the "Ring/Silent Switch" located at the top of your iPhone's left edge toward the back of your device to reveal a red dot or color. You'll then see a slashed bell or "Mute" icon appear on the screen, indicating that your device is in silent mode.

  • Tap "Settings" on your home screen, then tap "Sounds."

  • Tap the first "Vibrate" slider located under "Silent" at the top of your setting screen to toggle it "On." All alerts, including those for incoming text messages, will now quietly vibrate your iPhone when it is in silent mode.

Ring

  • Flip the "Ring/Silent Switch" toward the front of your device. You'll see a bell icon appear on the screen, indicating that your device is in ring mode.

  • Tap "Settings" on your home screen, then tap "Sounds."

  • Tap the second "Vibrate" slider about midway down the screen to toggle it "On."

  • Tap "Text Tone" to select a text tone sound. Choose any sound option, except for "None." All incoming text messages will now vibrate and sound a distinct alert when your iPhone is in ring mode.
