If you get food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, in Texas, you can check your available balance each time you use your Lone Star Card at the grocery store. As of April 2015, there was no option to do the check online..
An updated balance is always on the receipt for any Lone Star Card purchase. Should you miss that, call the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, or HHSC, at 800-777-7328.
Disagreeing with the Balance
If you suspect the balance is incorrect, you'll need to call the HHSC and provide as much information as possible for the agency to review. Once the review concludes, HHSC will send a letter to your home advising of the outcome. To avoid disputing balances, you should always keep the most recent receipt with your Lone Star Card.
