How to Interpret Fairy Oracle Cards
There is more than one deck of cards which draws on a sense of fairies as magical, mostly benevolent nature spirits who offer help and guidance to those humans who honor them. Doreen Virtue, well-known for her books and card decks about connecting with angels, also offers two card systems related to the fairy realm: Healing with the Fairies and Magical Messages from the Fairies. Another deck, by artist Brian Froud and writer Jessica Froud, uses the traditional Celtic spelling: the Faery Oracle. There are also fairy oracle decks with more resemblance to the traditional 78-card tarot. When choosing a deck, try to visit a store where you can see individual cards and handle them to get a feeling for their energy.

1
Take some time before you use the cards for the first time to prepare the space in which you will use them. Make sure the room is relatively clean and the table on which you will lay the cards out is not dirty. You may wish to make the fairies feel welcome by spreading out an attractive piece of cloth in a luxurious material like silk or velvet. You can use this as the surface on which you will lay out your cards. Find a notebook and a pen or pencil so you can jot down your impressions of the card. This will aid you later on in remembering the reading. Many people find that lighting a candle helps them create a sense of shifting their energy away from the mundane world towards communication with fairies and other helping spirits.

Prepare yourself as well as the physical space surrounding you. Make sure your hands are clean. Also, take a few minutes to calm and center yourself. If you use an oracle system while you are anxious or angry, you will not receive a clear reading. Close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths to cleanse your energy. You may also want to hold a cleansing crystal such as selenite to clear your vibrations. Other crystals may also help, such as blue chalcedony to open your third eye or green apophyllite which has a strong connection to the world of nature spirits. Some people also like to use an aromatherapy essential oil which calms them or one which enhances their psychic skills. You may wish to place a small amount of your selected oil on a corner of your table or cloth so its aroma will interact with both you and the cards.

Hold your question for the cards in your mind as you pick up the cards in your left hand. There are different methods for mingling your energy with that of the cards, including holding them to your face and exhaling on them, shuffling them then cutting the deck two times, or placing the deck face-down on the table and spreading the cards apart. Let your intuition guide you as to which of these methods to use. When you are ready, lift up one card at a time. If you are new to using divination cards, it is better to keep things simple and turn over no more than four cards at a time so you do not overwhelm yourself with too much information. Place the cards face-up in front of you.

Look at the cards and notice your immediate reaction to the images, writing these down immediately. Try to remain in a meditative state, not becoming emotionally attached to any sense of card offering "good "or "bad" messages. After you note your own reaction to the cards, look up the interpretative information offered in the book accompanying the deck. See if the book's interpretation resonates with you. Remember that your intuition and the book's interpretation offer equally valid sources of information as to the meaning of your reading.

5
Use your fairy oracle card deck regularly, asking everyday questions for which you do not harbor a lot of emotions. For example, you can do a weekly reading on what is coming towards you for the next seven days. Over time, by using the deck regularly, you will develop a sense of what the individual cards convey for you. Your ability to read and interpret the cards will grow with practice.
