How to Hard Reset an HTC Smartphone

Hard resetting your HTC smartphone may be necessary if the device locks up or you are experiencing other problems such as poor call quality or dropped calls. During troubleshooting, your mobile carrier's tech support agent may ask you to perform a hard reset on the phone as a last resort. Resetting the HTC smartphone returns the device to its original factory state. All data and settings on the phone are erased by a hard reset.

  • Press "Home" on your HTC smartphone, then press "Menu."

  • Tap "Settings," "Security" and then "Privacy."

  • Tap "Factory Data Reset" and enter your four-digit lock code. The reset code may be the last four digits of your mobile phone number.

  • Tap "Reset Phone" and read the disclaimer before continuing.

  • Tap "OK" and wait for the phone to restart. The hard reset is complete when the phone restarts.
