It is easy to make a countdown with household objects

There are so many events in life that we await with bated breath --- like Christmas, birthdays, retirement, and vacations. Often, it takes everything we have to wait patiently for these wonderful moments. Making a free countdown is a good way to look forward to special events and to pace yourself until it arrives. When most people think of a countdown, they envision crossing off dates on a calendar or going online and having a computer count down for you. Countdowns can be much more creative than this, however.

Instructions

  1. How to Make a Free Christmas Countdown

    • 1

Use a sheet of construction paper or a file folder to make a countdown to Christmas. Decorate the folder using crayons or markers.

    • 2

Draw 25 doors on the folder, and number them from one to 25. Use scissors to cut them open on three sides so that you can peek behind the doors.

    • 3

Write messages or draw small pictures on the inside of the folder so that, as you open each door, you will receive a Christmas surprise.

How to Make a Free Countdown For Any Occasion

    • 4

Place a specific number of small objects in a jar. Marbles, balls, paper clips, or whatever you have on hand works well.

    • 5

Decorate the jar to reflect the occasion you are looking forward to.

    • 6

Remove one object each day, until the jar is empty. Viola! Your long-awaited occasion is here.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Christmas countdown can be modified for any occasion. Try cutting out a heart shape for Valentine's Day, a bathing suit shape for a much-awaited vacation, or a rattle for a baby's due date.
