How to Connect Your PC to a Comcast Modem
To take advantage of Comcast's high-speed Internet, you need to use a cable modem. For a small fee, Comcast rents cable modems to its Internet customers. Rental modems offer the convenience of exchange or replacement free of charge if the modem fails. The cable modem must be connected to your PC to provide Internet service.

1
Turn your computer off. Click the "Start" button, and choose "Shut Down."
-
2
Find a place for your modem that is close to a cable outlet. You will use the cable coming from an outlet. The shorter the distance that the cord runs, the better quality your connection will be.
-
-
3
Connect the coaxial cable cord from the wall to the back of the modem. It screws in the same way the connection on the back of your television or cable box does. Screw the connection clockwise until it is secure.
-
4
Plug the Ethernet cord into the Ethernet jack on your computer. An Ethernet cord looks like a large telephone cord. Push the plastic plug into the jack until it clicks.
-
5
Connect your modem to an electrical outlet. Allow the modem to run its startup procedure. The lights will flash randomly. Wait for the lights to stabilize.
-
6
Power on your computer and wait for it to start up fully. Open your Web browser to start the installation wizard. Continue following the on-screen directions to set up your Comcast high-speed Internet account and connect your modem to that account.
