How to Add a MetaTag to a Tumblr Log

Save

Tumblr's microblogging platform may not provide the customization options of well-known alternatives Blogger and WordPress, but it does provide access to your tumblelog's HTML code which means you can add META tags. META tags are keywords associated with your tumblelog in HTML code format that help your blog get picked up by search engines. Using META tags is not a guarantee for getting search engine traffic, but it does make your blog easier to find for search engine crawlers.

  • Prepare your META tags in a text document. Use the following HTML code for the description associated with your tumblelog:

    <META name="description" content="insert your description here.">

    Make your description clear and concise, containing words pertinent to the content of your tumblelog. Use the following code for keywords:

    <META name="keywords" content="keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword">.

  • Navigate to tumblr.com. Log in to your account. Click the "Customize" link in the right column of your Dashboard.

  • Click the "Theme" tab in the toolbar on your "Customize" page. Click the "Use Custom HTML" button.

  • Locate the head of your HTML document: <head>. This is located at the top of the page.

  • Navigate back to your text document on your computer. Select and copy your META tags. Navigate back to Tumblr in your Web browser.

  • Paste your META tags under the <head> code of your page. Click the "Save + Close" button to apply your changes.
