How to Transfer WBFS to Another WBFS Drive

The Wii Backup File System, or WBFS, is a file format used only with the Nintendo Wii Entertainment System. When you backup one of your Wii games, a game file is created with the WBFS file extension. This file is saved on a WBFS drive. You can transfer WBFS games from one WBFS drive to another WBFS drive using the Wii Backup Manager. Because the WBFS format is proprietary, no standalone operating system can read WBFS drives without Wii Backup Manager.

Things You'll Need

  • Wii Backup Manager
  • Download and install Wii Backup Manager. This is the only program that is capable of managing WBFS files. Open Wii Backup Manager.

  • Connect both WBFS drives to your computer. Click the "Drive 1" tab on the Wii Backup Manager window. Select the drive letter of one of the WBFS drives. A list will appear showing the games installed on the drive.

  • Click the "Drive 2" tab on the Wii Backup manager window and click the drive letter of the second WBFS drive. A list of games that are on the drive will appear.

  • Click the box next to the game or games that you want to transfer from one WBFS drive to another and click the "Transfer" button below the "Drive" tab.

  • Click the drive that you want to transfer the game to from the small context menu box that appears. The game will transfer to the other WBFS drive. Disconnect the drives after the transfer completes.
