How to Draw Emu Birds

How to Draw Emu Birds thumbnail
You can easily draw an emu once you have a perfect guide.

Emus are a part of the ostrich family, and they have good eyesight and hearing. Emus are said to have the strongest legs of their kind. They are birds, yet they do not fly. Drawing an emu can seem difficult at first because of the way their bodies are formed. Emus have large upper bodies, strong hind legs and very small front legs. Their front legs are so small that they are sometimes hidden underneath their heavy feathers. Surprisingly, drawing an emu can be easy because there are only seven things to create ---- the head, neck, right and left front legs, body, and right and left hind legs.

Instructions

    • 1

Compile pictures of emus as a reference. You will need these pictures of the animal to create an accurate drawing. You can get pictures online, or you can search wildlife books.

    • 2

Create a circle in the middle of the paper. Make sure that you don't draw a large circle; it needs to look like the body of the emu. A medium-sized circle will work for the body. You can draw the circle freehand, or you can use a compass.

    • 3

Draw the first leg on the left side, directly under the circle. Red Oak Farm states that a leg with three toes should be drawn under the body. Draw the second leg on the right side. Continue by drawing two small arms on the body of the emu. Their body structure is different; their arms are much smaller than the rest of their body.

    • 4

Create the neck of the emu on top of the body. Draw the neck at an angle, making the animal appear as if it is leaning forward. Emus have long necks, similar to the ostrich.

    • 5

Draw a circle on the neck. The circle will serve as the emu's head. Emus usually have small heads, so the circle should represent its size. You can continue to add a beak and eyes.
