Sand off all old paint lines with a 200-grit sanding block. If sanding off old paint lines on walls, sand slowly and carefully so that you do not sand down and damage the drywall.

Rub your hand along the places you sanded to be sure that all paint lines and ridges are gone. If you feel any ridges or uneven places, sand again.

Wipe the entire area clean with a tack cloth to remove all sanding dust.

Apply one coat of primer. This will help even out the sanded areas to blend with the surrounding area.

Apply one to two coats of finish paint.

Tips & Warnings
When painting over old paint lines that are in dark colors, you may have to use two coats of primer to cover the old color.
Always wear a dust mask when sanding.
